Story of a dog and a donkey - in the corporate management business
_________
There lived a dog and a donkey in a house of a rich man.
The dog was supposed to guard the house of the master - as his Security in-Charge.
The donkey who carried loads for his master, working in the Logistics department.
The Donkey was always very busy within the Logistics department.
It had to go outside - and carry loads till late in the evening.... and used to work with full dedication for the master.
One night a thief came into the house - and made a slight noise inside the house..
The poor donkey was not asleep, due to joint pains, saw the thief.
As it was dog's department, the donkey informed the dog.
The dog lifted up its head - then went back to sleep - as if nothing had happened... or as if the dog didn't care.
The Donkey was conscientious & dedicated to the master.
It didn't wait for the dog to bark, but instead started to bray to alert / awaken the Master from his deep sleep.
The Master woke, noticed it was midnight, & grew irritated by the donkey's loud braying.
He ran out with a big stick - and walloped the donkey.
The Donkey was shocked by the Master's action. While the dog, just once again lifted its head, saw what was going on - laughed... and ..went back to sleep...!!
The normal story ends here with the moral ' It is always better to mind your own business.
................................
In the real world, of corporate management business administration, the story continues... with a twist.
_______
The master re-entered his bedroom, to go back to sleep - after securing the house.
(The Master was well qualified with degrees from top notch schools).
Before he fell asleep, he thought about the situation ..and wondered what had happened - & why.
His Donkey had never cried at this time before.
Also - the expression of donkey was not his sad normal expression - when he habitually got beaten.
Instead, the Donkey's expression was pained - as if to ask .. 'WHY must I get beaten .. this time !?'
That was unusual..
Also .. the dog looked sheepish, almost as if ashamed !!!
a + b + c =?
He looked outside his window ..and found that an intruder had entered the compound.
Switching on the house lights, he then saw someone running out through the gate.
The Master then felt sorry for the donkey.. gave the donkey a pat on the shoulder - and gave the dog an angry glare !!
Next morning both the donkey and the dog got letters. Which said.....
- the Dog had been suspended from night duty !
- the Donkey had got additional responsibility - of Security at night
- And ..the dog was asked to report to the donkey.
....
Again - the story could stop here - with the Moral
If you are dedicated to your job.. you can rise in responsibility.. to any level !!.
.....................
But our story continues..
With an additional twist..
................
The dog didn’t seem to feel any jealously - nor exhibit any change in expression or behaviour - even after getting a big demotion ..or after seeing the donkey was handling, what was once the dog's responsibility.!
One month passed - and in the mid-year appraisal the dog got 5 out of 10 and the donkey got 9 out of 10.
The Dog still didn't have any expressions of regret.
And the donkey began to feel sorry for his colleague, the Dog.
To meet his job / master's expectations, the donkey had to do a double shift.
And the dog, whose duty was reduced by half, enjoyed his free time.
Within 6 months the donkey, tired of the extra work, submitted his resignation.
The HR Dept.. cut the donkey's settlement - for not giving adequate notice - and started to look out for a replacement.
The designated post was advertised as a "Donkey-cum-Dog...opening !"
Due to difficulty in finding a Donkey-cum-Dog, ascreplacement - the suspended Dog was hired back to the job -with full pay including the suspension period pay.
Moral - Do your job. Don’t get involved in someone else's job ! Don’t be too dedicated to some one else. Be dedicated to yourself.

THIS IS ONLY A STORY.
